There is an appeal for witnesses after a man was hit by a car at Smithfield.
The Forensic Crash Unit are looking for any witnesses that were in the vicinity of the Smithfield roundabout between 7.00pm and 7.15pm Monday.
It’s alleged during this time, a 36-year-old White Rock man was crossing the northbound lanes of the Captain Cook highway when he was struck by a white utility.
The man received serious head injuries and was taken to the Cairns Hospital before being airlifted to Townsville hospital.
The highway was closed for a period of time while officers conducted their investigation.
Investigators are appealing for witnesses, especially those with dashcam vision of the crash, or the moments leading up to it to come forward.
In particular, officers from the Forensic Crash Unit are wishing to speak with the drivers of the particular vehicles pictured below who may have witnessed the incident.
