Police have confirmed human remains have been found inside a crocodile at Cooktown.
A formal identification process is underway however it is believed the remains are those of a missing 40-year-old New South Wales man.
The search and rescue operation has now been suspended.
The man had been fishing at the Annan River, with his family when it’s believed he fell into the water down a steep banks and failed to resurface.
The crocodile was killed after being located in a small creek during a helicopter search yesterday around four kilometres upstream of the incidents location.
Further testing will be conducted to determine a positive identity.
Police are working with wildlife officers as investigations continue.
