Boys facing 75 property crime charges in Cairns

Two boys are facing 75 property crime charges following an extensive investigation in Cairns.

The 17-year-old boys are accused of breaking into homes across the Greater Cairns District over the past four weeks, stealing cars and valuables.

Officers from Cairns Property Crime Unit and Cairns Tactical Crime Squad raided a Murray Street home last night, arresting both boys.

A 17-year-old Westcourt boy was charged with 16 counts of enter dwelling and commit indictable offence, 18 counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, five counts of stealing, four counts of attempted enter dwelling, three counts of unlicenced driving, two counts of fraud and one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, attempted enter premise and receiving tainted property.

A 17-year-old Edmonton boy was charged with nine counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, six counts of enter dwelling, five counts of attempted enter dwelling, three counts of stealing and one count of wilful damage.

Bail for both boys was opposed and they will appear in the Cairns Childrens Court.
