Police officers have been assaulted following a disturbance in Cairns.
It’s alleged a group of people were abusing people, trying to fight people and throwing glass bottles near local businesses on Mcleod Street around 11.30am yesterday.
Two girls are accused of turning on police, with one allegedly pushing him.
The alleged assault quickly escalated, with one girl punching the officer in the face, whilst the other attempted to set fire to the officer’s shirt.
Both girls were arrested by police and taken to the Cairns Watchhouse, where a 16-year-old girl assaulted an officer.
The Earlville girl has been charged with one count each of serious assault police causing bodily harm and serious assault police.
A 17-year-old Earlville girl has been charged with one count each of serious assault police and shop stealing, which is alleged to have occurred on July 31 at an Earlville business.
Both are scheduled to appear in the Cairns Childrens Court.
